Kick-Off Workshop With Stakeholders and Practitioners from the Rhenish Mining Area

The aim of the workshop on February 10, 2020 is to initiate a dialogue between RWTH researchers and the wide range of stakeholder groups in the Rhenish mining area. Representatives from the following four spheres are invited: Representatives from the federal and state governments and from municipalities, counties, and administrative districts; representatives from business and industry, including corporations as well as small and medium-sized companies, start-ups, development companies, and the real estate industry; representatives from civil society with its associations, initiatives, youth associations, students; and representatives from universities, chambers of commerce, trade unions, churches, foundations.

About 50 external guests accepted the invitation and discussed selected transformation tasks in the Rhenish mining area with around 40 reserchers. They articulated their expectations of RWTH's contributions to the structural transformation proess. Executives, decision-makers, practitioners, and committed individuals from the region showed themselves very open to the contributions from RWTH and engaged in the discussion and brainstorming sessions. The workshop thus successfully launched an ambitious process in which RWTH contributes to the transformation process in close collaboration with stakeholders from the region.
