Scientific Colloquium
The colloquium focuses on how to design and coordinate regional structural change processes to achieve sustainability. These processes will be examined from an interdisciplinary perspective interlinking the spatial, social, and engineering sciences. Different drivers of change enable and require different forms of control of input, output, outcome, and impact. These are discussed in a simplified way along two axes: first, how can the complexity this entails be dealt with? And, second, what principles are to govern the selection process?
The sustainable transformation of a region involves many tasks and fields of innovation. Each of these is subject to its own requirements in terms of dealing with complexity and selection. Transformation in space will be based on a bundle of different approaches to design and control. What consequences does this have for spatial development, the networking of actors and stakeholders, and process design in the respective fields? What are the requirements for meta-control in view of the emerging plurality of design and control models? Following on from these questions of design and control, the colloquium will reflect on the consequences for the roles of science and universities as players in the field of regional structural change.
